This visit covered two common AC problems. First, we replaced the home’s Nest thermostat with a new 701 thermostat. Second, we replaced a failed capacitor on the condensing unit that serves the master bedroom area.
The capacitor gives the outdoor unit’s compressor and fan motor the electrical boost they need to start. When it weakens or fails, the outdoor unit may hum without starting, cycle on and off, or stop cooling altogether, often on the hottest days, when it’s working hardest. Replacing it is a quick repair that protects the compressor from extra strain.
